Our emotions affect not only our mental well-being but also our bodies. Many people are unaware that negative emotions can physically manifest in our organs and muscles. In this blog post, I will explore how emotions are stored in the body, provide examples of such phenomena, and offer solutions through embodiment exercises, incorporating the URSA method.
How Emotions are Stored in the Body
The human body and mind are inseparable. When we experience strong emotions like fear, sadness, or anger, our body can react in various ways. Stress hormones are released, muscles tense up, and the nervous system is activated. If these emotions are not properly processed or released, they can become "stuck" in the body, leading to chronic ailments.

Examples of Stuck Emotions
Fear in the Stomach: Many people feel fear in their abdomen. The sensation of "butterflies in the stomach" before an exam or important conversation is widespread. Chronic fear, however, can lead to stomach issues such as irritable bowel syndrome.
Anger in the Liver: In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the liver is associated with the emotion of anger. People who suppress or do not adequately express their anger can develop liver problems or tension in the upper back and chest area.
Sadness in the Lungs: Also from TCM, there is a connection between the lungs and sadness. Prolonged sadness can affect breathing and lead to respiratory issues.
Stress in the Shoulders and Neck: Many of us are familiar with the feeling of tense shoulders and a stiff neck after a stressful day. Chronic stress can lead to permanent tension and headaches.
Solutions through Embodiment and the URSA Method
Embodiment is a holistic approach that aims to actively involve the body in the healing process. Through specific exercises and techniques, we can release stuck emotions and strengthen the connection between body and mind. The URSA method helps provide a structured way to process and release these emotions.
The URSA Method
URSA stands for Understand, Release, Soothe, Align and offers a comprehensive strategy for dealing with stuck emotions:
Release: Use techniques such as physical movement, breathing exercises, and expressive therapies to release stuck emotions. Movement therapies like dance or yoga are particularly helpful.
Soothe: After releasing emotions, calm your body and mind with relaxation techniques such as meditation, gentle yoga, or mindfulness exercises. This helps stabilize the nervous system and restore emotional balance.
Align: Work on aligning your posture and mental attitude. Regular embodiment exercises and a conscious lifestyle can ensure that you live in harmony with your emotions and your body.
Conclusion
Storing emotions in the body is a complex but widespread phenomenon. By consciously addressing our emotions and their physical manifestations, we can develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and find ways to resolve emotional blockages. The combination of embodiment exercises and the URSA method offers various ways to release stuck emotions and restore the balance between body and mind.
I offer guidance and support in exploring and applying these techniques to help you discover what works best for you. Your body and mind will thank you. I look forward to move with you together
